Ryan Hinds B.Sc. (Biology), M.A.
Ryan Hinds was born in Georgetown, Guyana and moved to Toronto, Ontario in his youth. After accepting a scholarship to the University of New Hampshire where he received a BSc in (Pre-Med) Biology, Ryan was drafted 13thoverall in the 2009 CFL draft. Ryan had a success 6-year career in the CFL, winning the 2015 Grey Cup with the Edmonton Eskimos.
During this time Ryan partnered with then teammates Jonathan Hood and Matt Carter to co-found a not-for-profit organization call GTA Youth Athletics which taught local youth teamwork and leadership through the medium of football. He later teamed up with Jonathan hood to help develop the Ahead of the Game Mentoring Program. Ryan also use his platform as a professional athlete to partner with and become an ambassador for the charitable organization, Guyana Help the Kids, an organization that aims to improve the health care of children in his native Georgetown, Guyana.
Upon retirement, Ryan Hinds attended the University of Toronto and completed a Master’s Degree of Health Sciences in Health Administration at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME). Ryan now works are the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, is on the editorial board of Health Debate (https://healthydebate.ca/), and is an adjunct faculty member of the (IHPME). As an IHPME faculty member, Ryan is leading the development of a bridging program that is partnering Ahead of the Game with U of T’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) to provide an educational opportunities for sidelined students to the University of Toronto.
